About Honor Flight of Northern New Mexico
Mission Statement
Honor Flight of Northern New Mexico’s mission is to celebrate America's Veterans by inviting them to share in a day of honor at our nation's memorials.
Vision Statement
Honor Flight of Northern New Mexico’s vision is a nation where all of America's Veterans experience the honor, gratitude, and community of support they deserve.
It’s been the “trip of a lifetime” for many of the state’s World War II Veterans who have taken a trip to Washington, D.C., to visit and reflect at their memorial, courtesy of Honor Flight of Northern New Mexico.
HFNNM was established as a 501c-3 non-profit hub of the Honor Flight Network in 2013 with the goal of honoring as many New Mexico Veterans as possible for all their sacrifices. Top priority is given to World War II and Korean War Veterans and Veterans of other conflicts who may be terminally ill, although Vietnam War Veterans have been added as seats are made available.
The trip to our nation’s capital is free of charge to the veteran and includes airfare, lodging, meals and all transportation within the Washington, D.C., area. During the trip, veterans are able to visit the World War II Memorial as well as the Lincoln, Vietnam War and Korean War Memorials. We also view the Changing of the Guard at Arlington National Cemetery. Time permitting, additional stops my be made.
During the trip, each veteran is paired with a guardian who makes sure all of their needs are met. Guardians can be family members, friends, or complete strangers who have volunteered their time toward the effort. Guardians pay their own way. A portion of their $1500 donation is tax deductible and covers all costs associated with the trip.
Honor Flight of Northern New Mexico raises funds for the trip through private donations, annual car show, and an annual golf tournament held in early Fall.
"We can't all be heroes. Some of us have to stand on the curb and clap as they go by."
